The ''Children's book award 2010'', organized by the Anna Lindh Foundation, has been launched. Publishers of children's books in Egypt, Jordan, Palestinian Territories, Lebanon and Syria are invited to submit their books in arabic.
The annual competition, according to the Enpi website (www.enpi-info.eu), under the theme ''Reading here, there and everywhere'', recognizes the best new unpublished fiction for children, written in arabic and set for release in winter 2010-2011. The award aims at supporting and encouraging the publication of high quality non-translated arabic children's books. The deadline for all the five countries is October 15. The winners will participate at a ceremony anche the award will include a trophy and a cash prize of 1,000 euros for each author and illustrator of the winning books as well as a cash prize of 2,000 euros to the publishers of the winning books.
An additional prize of 200 euros will be bestowed to new or emerging authors or illustrators of the winning books. A special preference will be given for books that target pre-schoolers (ages 0-5) and young adults (12 and above). The Anna Lindh Foundation for the dialogue between cultures is a 7 million euros Eu-funded project, which aims at bringing people and organisations of the region closer and promoting dialogue, by offering them opportunities to work together on projects in the fields of culture, education, science, human rights, sustainable development, the empowerment of women and the arts.
