The competition is open to only professionally qualified and registered journalists based in Edo State, who are working for media organisations that are based in Nigeria, Nigeria owned or published in Nigeria for Nigerians.
Entries must be a minimum of five copies and must be submitted as original copy with each entry clearly stating the date and medium of publication. Low quality photocopies will be automatically rejected, the statement warned.
Entries must have been published or broadcast between September 30, 2010 and October 19, 2010 and journalists must submit a maximum of two of their best investigative reports in either print or broadcast media.
Broadcast entries must be submitted in VCD/CD format with date of broadcast, medium and duration clearly written on the label sleeve, adding that entries with poor quality will be disqualified while entries must be accompanied with full transcript of the tapes.
All entries must have local significance, that is Edo State and, or Nigerian content and must be accompanied with a short bio-data and a covering letter.
Entries will be judged based on quality, sound or voice, depth of coverage and the relevance to local situation, particularly as it relates to Edo State. Entries must also reflect appropriate use of language, the statement added.
Relatives of the Panel of Judges, and all executive members of the (NUJ) are not eligible to apply and the Panel of Judges reserves the right to suspend the award for 2010 if all or none of the entries fails to meet the award criteria.
The award carries a cash price of N100,000 donated by Hon. Philip Shaibu, Majority Leader, Edo State House of Assembly.
