Southern Africa is one of the most important regions in the world for commodities and energy and we are looking for a dynamic, versatile reporter to join the C+E reporting team. Although the successful candidate will have a specific beat, he or she will need to be able to break news on commodities ranging from grains and softs to precious and base metals. We are looking for an accomplished reporter who will also be a team player and will be expected to play a role helping out on a busy general news and macro-economic file.

Responsibilities:

• Builds contacts and breaks exclusive news
• Writes and reports quickly and accurately in line with Thomson Reuters principles
• Gains awareness of client needs through contacts with customers and business
• Travels when need be and shares the bureau's weekly editing shifts and occasional weekend duties

Qualifications

Degree level or equivalent experience

Required skills:

• Strong track record of reporting
• Strong writing and reporting skills
• Strong news judgment
• Good team skills
• Ability to produce analytical stories to give the bigger picture
• Readiness to cover news from other asset classes

Desired skills:

• Knowledge of how to use 3000Xtra to add value to stories
• Background in commodities reporting
