Call for Submissions: The State of Black Arizona Vol. 3

The State of Black Arizona is a multifaceted project aimed to facilitate a greater understanding among community stake holders of the issues, concerns, and status of Blacks in Arizona in order to improve decision-making as it affects the lives of all Arizonans.

To accomplish this mission, the project organizes, synthesizes, analyzes, and presents data about African Americans in Arizona using various media.

Submission Guidelines

The State of Black Arizona—Volume 3 invites manuscripts that use empirical data to analyze an area of Arizona’s African American population in relation to science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM).

Already existing data sets (i.e. Census, NCES, AZ Department of Education, etc.) and/or author-generated empirical data can be used. The State of Black Arizona seeks a broad range of topics concerning Black Arizonans and STEM as these disciplines relate to one or more of the following areas:

1. Economics
2. Education
3. Health
4. Immigration
5. Law
6. Housing

Interested authors should submit:

* Author(s) information
* Contact information
* A 100-word biographical sketch for each author

Narrative Abstract

A 250-word narrative abstract (excluding references, tables, charts, graphs, and figures) for review that addresses each of the seven elements below. If the results, conclusions or findings are not complete or final at the time of the submission, the abstract should provide the editorial board with an understanding of the results and findings to date. The abstract should explicitly address the following elements, preferably in this order:

1. Problem statement
2. Objectives or purposes
3. Perspective(s) or theoretical framework
4. Methods, techniques, or modes of inquiry
5. Data sources, evidence, objects or materials
6. Results and/or substantiated conclusions or warrants for arguments/point of view, and Significance of the study or work

The deadline for submissions has been extended to Monday, November 15, 2010 5pm PST. Notification of acceptance will be sent within four months.

After you login you will see “Upload Article” Link on the left side of the page under heading “Resource”

Fill in the information and upload the article

Make sure the article is either in DOC, DOCX, PDF or ZIPPED

The State of Black Arizona invites proposals from a wide audience. Accepted authors will receive support from a data analyst and peer editor.
