INDEPENDENT NEWSPAPERS KWAZULU NATAL VACANCY REPORTER
The Mercury has an exciting and challenging vacancy for a Junior News Reporter. The incumbent will be required to work in teams responsible for producing news, backgrounders, analysis and feature articles for The Mercury.
The successful applicant will be expected to:
Have a sharp news sense and an ability to generate own stories suitable for the tle with minimum supervision.
- Be able to write in-depth, quality articles with a flair for tackling and writing a variety of stories including human interest, breaking news, background features and analytical pieces.
- Have a good general knowledge and an ability to make critical and valid news judgements.
- Have good interpersonal skills in dealing with contacts.
- Be a self-starter that shows initiative and can work off diary
- Be extremely motivated and be able to work independently as well as part of a team when necessary.
- Have some photographic ability
- Experience in covering local and provincial government and an interest in current affairs will be an advantage.
The required competencies include:
* High level of literacy
* Well developed writing skills
* Tertiary qualification in journalism or relevant experience or equivalent
* Computer literacy and skills in use of relevant computer systems
* Valid driver's licence - Having your own vehicle will be an advantage
