Next Journalism + writing teaching jobs

Job Opening: Deputy Managing Editor for AllAfrica.com (South Africa)

Africa's biggest online news service, allAfrica.com, seeks a Cape Town-based deputy to assist its managing editor.

AllAfrica posts more than 1,000 stories a day, aggregating copy from about 100 news partners across the continent and publishing its own original content.

We are looking for an experienced journalist, able both to train journalism graduates in the selection and presentation of news and to process and sign off on original copy edited to the highest professional standards.

The duties of the successful applicant will include:

* Supervising, in person and on the web, staff who post, process and lay out news in our Cape Town, Dakar, Nairobi and Monrovia offices;
* Overseeing the collation and updating of our news and theme pages; and
* Taking responsibility for editing a daily bulletin of Africa's top news for radio stations.

We are willing to be flexible in constructing the post to suit the qualifications and availability of the best candidates. For example, if warranted we might split the post between a half-day, on-site editor and a part-time copy editor working remotely. Applications from any Cape Town-based journalist with permission to work in South Africa welcomed.
