New Media Publishing is looking for an up-and-coming editor to look after English language monthly print and digital publications produced on behalf of a large banking client.
This position will appeal to an editor who is happy to take control of the whole editorial process and work closely with the client and the design team to produce creative work under time pressures. As with any contract publishing position, the candidate should be able to find interesting editorial solutions to marketing challenges. Candidates should be strong copy editors and good process managers.
Depending on the successful applicant, this position could be handled in conjunction with other responsibilities. The start date would be soonest.
Responsibilities
• Responsible for a magazine that is on time, creative, with excellent copy and adhering to the demands and marketing objectives of the client
• Driving the production process from concept stage to final page proofs
• Positioning and development of the magazine with particular emphasis on balancing lifestyle content with necessary staff communication messages to developing greater readership of the title.
• Client liaison and client meetings in Johannesburg (Position is Cape Town based)
• Responsibility for the editorial budget
• Writing copy for features where required as well as rewriting stories and writing captions

Minimum qualifications and experience include:
• A journalism degree / diploma or similar
• At least three years' experience in an editorial environment
• An unendorsed drivers license
• Ability to travel
• Experience in the banking industry will be an added advantage
