Job description
Compleat Golfer began with the launch of the only magazine written entirely by South Africa golfers, for South African golfers, in 1989. Twenty years on, it has evolved beyond the print medium, offering its readers a host of opportunities to engage with the Compleat Golfer brand, including our interactive website, weekly web letter and newly launched mobile site, not forgetting Compleat Golfer's presence on Facebook and Twitter. As industry leaders, Compleat Golfer has launched of a number of 'firsts' in South Africa, such as Golf Course Rankings, 5-Star Golf Experience Awards and the Annual Awards Dinner.
We are looking for an enthusiastic writer to join this energetic team as golf journalist. Reporting to the editor, the successful candidate will be responsible for generating feature stories and regular content for the magazine and other platforms as required.
Your key responsibilities will be as follows:
• Writing feature stories e.g. interviews, travel features and golf event reviews
• Writing of regulars for the magazine e.g. Global Golf, Freeze Frame (captioning), On Tour, Results and Rankings, Inside the PGA
• Generating content for supplements and special reports / advertorials as required
• Representing the Compleat Golfer brand at events when required

Requirements
To be considered for this role, you'll need to have:
• The ability to conceptualise and pitch story ideas to creative teams
• A relevant qualification (English / journalism majors)
• Two to three years of writing experience (and a portfolio of work to prove it)
• Golf knowledge / an interest in golf / regular golfing essential
• Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills
• The ability to deliver high quality work in a deadline-driven, competitive environment
• A great work ethic
• Meticulous proofreading skills
• A willingness to work unusual hours and to travel as required
• Photographic skills would be advantageous
