INDEPENDENT NEWSPAPERS KWAZULU - NATAL VACANCY
SENIOR SUB EDITOR
Independent Newspapers has a challenging and exciting position for Senior Sub Editor's for Isolezwe. The successful applicant will be responsible for designing and laying out the paper; co-ordinating the joint efforts of editorial, advertising and production, thereby ensuring that the newspaper and all its sections are printed according to circulation deadlines.
The successful applicant will deputise for the chief sub editor in his absence and will also be responsible for the weekend edition.
He/she will also deputise for the news editor.
In addition, the successful candidate should:
* Have a relevant tertiary qualification and extensive experience with QPS, QuarkXpress and CopyDesk as well as ad placement systems.
* Be fluent in Zulu and English and in touch with the Zulu speaking community.
* Have a comprehensive understanding of and sensitivity to the content requirements of all sections of a newspaper.
* Be creative and thoroughly proficient in all aspects of sub-editing, with a particular flair for layout and picture presentation.
* Be experienced in training on all aspects of newspaper production.
* Be a person of integrit.
* Have highly developed communication skills and be able to contribute to the strategic planning and decision-making process of this exciting new title.
* Be able to work closely with the newsroom and other departments.
* Have an understanding of transformation and the challenges facing KwaZulu Natal and South Africa today and in the future.
* Willing to work on Weekends.
* Be willing to work different shifts and overtime as required.
