POST TITLE: Web editor: Volksblad
Volksblad.com, based in Bloemfontein, has a position available for a web editor.
Duties
•Supervising compilation of relevant news stories for the website
•Editorial quality on website
•Managing proportions with published newspaper
•Close cooperation with Volksblad editor and news editor
•Managing community provided content
•Managing and liaising with blogger community
•Managing social media presence of the brand name
•Answering all e-mail. This will include problem solving, as well as any subscription and connectivity problems experienced by users
•Identification of possible interactive elements and galleries
Skills
•Good understanding of digital medium and future possibilities
•Knowledge of how communities can work and be enlarged on news websites
•Must be able to focus on detail
•Must be someone who makes good, feasible, creative proposals
•Good communications skills
•Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision
•Must be able to work in a team
•Take initiative
•Well organised, with good time management skills
•Strong leadership abilities
•Excellent writing and sub skills
•Must be able to do basic photo editing
•Ability to perform under pressure
•Willingness to work unusual hours
•Techinical computer skills are a strong recommendation
Qualifications and experience
•A tertiary qualification
•At least three years’ experience in journalism
•Experience as sub editor
•Web experience will be advantageous
