tvplus magazine has a vacancy for a skilled and experienced Managing Editor in its Sandton office. The candidate will be primarily responsible for doing the final check on the Afrikaans edition, stand in for the editor when necessary, translate quickly and accurately from English to Afrikaans, rewrite articles and sub-edit, handle freelancers and payments, budgets, set up production schedules with all interested parties, manage the daily production workflow, write articles when necessary and general office administration.
The ideal candidate MUST:
* Have at least five years' sub-editing experience at a senior level on a mainstream newspaper or magazine
* Have excellent Afrikaans language skills
* Be able to stand in for the editor when necessary
* Be able to meet the constantly demanding deadlines
* Have knowledge of production at a magazine or newspaper
* Have a passion for television, celebrities and entertainment
* Have good organisational skills
* Be able to write lively, creative and factually correct copy
* Be able to generate ideas for magazine articles
* Be able to communicate easily with people at all levels
* Be prepared to work under deadline pressure, sometimes for long hours and travel out of town
* Be computer-literate and familiar with InDesign.
* Have a driver's licence
