Job description

John Brown South Africa requires the services of an experienced copy editor to work on a key custom publication and related material. This appointment offers a creative opportunity to work with a dynamic and growing team. This position is based in Cape Town (Observatory) and reports to the Editor.

Responsibilities

• Checking copy for grammatical and stylistic errors and factual accuracy
• Rewriting and writing of captions
• Proofreading
• Attending and contributing to editorial meetings
• Some web research and copy writing may be required

Competencies required

• Thorough knowledge of British and South African English
• Excellent spelling
• Three years or more experience as copy editor in magazine publishing
• High level of computer literacy, including: Adobe InDesign CS3 (non-negotiable)
Internet, email, Microsoft Office
• General administrative skills
• Punctuality
• Resourcefulness (and ability to work with a team)
• Ability to work under pressure and to meet strict deadlines
