DAILY VOICE DEPUTY EDITOR
The Daily Voice is offering an exceptional career opportunity to a progressive all-round journalist who wishes to build on to his / her substantial editorial experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Deputise for the Editor when necessary Formulate the newspaper for the next day Drive the news diary Manage staff in the newsroom Work with reporters on breaking news Manage the overall production process of the Daily Voice
PREFERRED MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
* Relevant journalism diploma or degree
* At least 5 years senior journalistic experience relevant to this publication and its target market
* Experience in all aspects of newspaper reporting and production
* An understanding and appreciation of the market and positioning of the Daily Voice
* Broad editorial management exposure and knowledge of commercial aspects of the newspaper business
* A fresh approach to tabloid media content and the ability to translate this into new, dynamic ideas that will appeal to the readers of the title
* A keen understanding of the market and the media environment, with the ability to make innovative contributions
* An excellent grasp of Western Cape/Cape Flats politics and social issues
* Professionalism and excellent presentation skills which translate into outstanding ability to represent the newspaper in the public domain
* Excellent knowledge of current SA media law
PREFERRED COMPETENCIES:
- A good command of English and Afrikaans
- Outstanding leadership skills
- Have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
- The ability to be a strong team player
- The ability to make snap decisions
- The ability to work well under pressure
