Political Editor

Dispatch Media, a division of AVUSA Media in East London Eastern Cape South Africa, is looking for a suitably qualified Manager to head its political desk.
The ideal candidate will have the following competencies:
Ability
* Represent the newspaper in various capacities as required by the Editor
* Responsible for newspaper's overall political coverage, including breaking political news
* Contacts in government, political parties, civil society groups and academia
* Manage and co-ordinate the newspaper's political coverage
* Provide comprehensive coverage of the Eastern Cape's provincial Legislature
* Produce quality and exclusive political content sourced from the entire Eastern Cape
* Write opinion pieces and leaders
* Supply political content for all Dispatch platforms: Daily Dispatch, Saturday Dispatch, Dispatch Online
* Deputise news Editor when required by Editor
Experience
* Three or four year Post Matric qualification in Journalism
* Minimum of 5 years experience on a mainstream daily or weekend newspaper
* A valid Drivers License
Knowledge
* Good general knowledge
* Ability to work and lead a team of reporters
* knowledge of political economy of the Eastern Cape
* A thorough knowledge of journalistic ethics and practices
