Farmer's Weekly, a cutting-edge, award-winning magazine, has a vacancy for a web editor in Craighall Park, Johannesburg

This exciting position requires you to assist with the development of our new website and to implement all aspects of our digital communication.

The ideal candidate would have excellent editorial skills, with fluent English. You should have experience of managing a web presence and carrying out communications work in a busy, fast-paced environment. Experience of running communication campaigns using digital media would be an advantage.

Main responsibilities

• Manage the Farmer's Weekly website's content to a high standard
• Improve website's visitor statistics, feedback and participation
• Commission and/or write short articles for the website
• Incorporate magazine content into website
• Edit all web specific content
• Ensure that information is accurate and the language is flawless

Essential skills and experience

Language skills

• Fluent English
• Excellent rewriting, research and language skills.
• Ability to write engagingly and convincingly for the web

Web and IT skills

• Excellent editorial skills with a sound understanding of writing for the web and engaging and building online audiences
• Solid experience managing dynamic websites (please give examples of web addresses where you were the sole or main web editor)
• Knowledge of digital trends
• Excellent knowledge of a range of applications and software including social media platforms, content management systems, image-editing software, MS Windows.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Proven experience in project and time management
• Ability to respond flexibly to changing priorities
• Keen news sense
• Needs to be pro-active and a self starter with the ability to work alone and be resourceful
• Keen commercial awareness especially with regards to monetising digital content

Desirable skills and experience

  • An interest in agriculture, biology, science, economics and politics.
  • Creative and design experience.
  • At least two years experience as web-editor or assistant web-editor
  • At least one year editing or sub-editing experience
  • A relevant diploma or Bachelors degree

Salary: Market related
