Commencing soonest, my client requires an Editor for a men’s magazine, reporting to the Editorial Director and based in Cape Town.
We are looking for an accomplished, media-literate and commercially sensitive editor who understands the complexity of the consumer magazine market and who can build on the success of the magazine and take it to the next level.
The candidate would be required to assume full editorial responsibility and to lead and inspire the editorial team.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
1. Assume overall editorial responsibility and control of the magazine, website and all relevant content platforms, staff and contributors.
2. Develop a vision to take the magazine forward and implement a clear strategy to achieve this vision across all platforms.
3. Ensure circulation targets are met by managing all aspects of editorial planning.
4. Clearly understand the reader and its market by continually evaluating feedback and comment, while also monitoring, evaluating and implementing trends in local and global media.
5. Initiate ideas that drive both editorial and commercial innovations across all the brand platforms.
6. Assume total responsibility of the editorial budget.
7. Internal and external representation of the brand.
Requirements:
* Relevant tertiary qualification in Journalism or Media Studies, or a post-graduate diploma in journalism, and/or a minimum of five years relevant senior editorial experience.
* Strong background in consumer magazines and a passion for publishing.
* Competency and understanding of health, fitness and wellness trends, locally and internationally.
* Excellent communication skills and a strong command of the English language (written & verbal)
* Clear understanding of business imperatives and commercial performance required in a modern publishing environment.
* Proficient writer with strong editing skills.
* Willingness to travel.
