Job Description
The Department of Linguistics currently has a vacancy in Linguistics/Applied Linguistics for a suitably qualified candidate at the level of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer who can contribute to research, teaching and administration. The Department has strengths in the areas of multilingualism, sociolinguistics/semiotics, systemic functional linguistics, critical discourse analysis and the politics & historiography of language.
The Department seeks to appoint an individual who will teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in these areas and/or can offer modules in (a) formal/typological linguistics, especially in an SFL framework; (b) psycholinguistics, 1st and 2nd language development and language assessment; and/or (c) digital literacies.
The successful candidate will have at least a relevant Master's degree for the Lectureship (preferably a PhD in hand), a relevant PhD in Linguistics/Applied Linguistics for the Senior Lectureship, and a publication record (comprising peer-reviewed and/or accredited journals, books or book chapters on reputable presses) commensurate with what would be expected of a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer. Proficiency in or ability to work with African languages is a recommendation.
