Permanent position in the Media sector in Cape Town in South Africa (Western Cape).

Our client publishes South Africa’s most-loved consumer magazine brands and over the last 27 years demonstrated that magazines are more than just the paper they are printed on, but the coming together of like-minded individuals. Today the company boasts a community of readers of well over 1.7 million people who engage with the trendsetting content via the magazines, websites, mobile offerings and events.
We are looking for an Online Editor for two websites (one young female focused and the other house and leisure).
Responsibilities include:
*Take responsibility will be to focus on the website news service and prepare a daily news agenda seeking stories form Online news
*Manage the prices database and oversee the price assessment and reporting process for the product.
*Oversee maintenance of editorial copy and production deadlines.
*Proof-read and edit copy to conform to house style.
*Maintain and improve where appropriate quality standards of copy, content, design and layout of the website.
*Occasionally travel out of the office, locally and out of the UK to meet contacts, attend conferences, conduct interviews, attend press conferences, entertain contacts.
*Ensure smooth and efficient copy flow and production of editorial projects including maintenance of the website, on-line news and other editorial information.
*Chair and organise regular staff editorial meetings.
*Assist overall supervision of Online editorial production and respective staff.
*Directly manage the Online news editor and two existing permanent staff
*Cooperate with the Publisher on business development plans and ideas.
*Assist marketing to promote products where required.
*Cooperate with the advertisement sales team to generate leads
*Liaise with advertising sales team on potential editorial opportunities to generate sales.
The ideal person must have:
- A strong focus on news-gathering gained within a commodities or financial/business journalism environment
- Be completely Online driven and demonstrate the skills required to manage an Online editorial team
- The confidence to ensure targets for the Online market and news stories are met and that the product's website is the key focus of the subscription
- An understanding of the Online medium within a B2B publishing environment from both an editorial and commercial viewpoint
- A background of commodity pricing would be a huge benefit but not essential
