Job description
The Natal Witness Printing & Publishing Company (Pty) Ltd invites applications for the position of Sports Editor.
The ideal candidate must have a journalism degree / diploma and at least five years experience in a similar position. A comprehensive knowledge of sport and a specialist interest in domestic football are essential in this position. Applicants must have an interest in the news and current affairs, wide general knowledge, a sound grasp of English grammar and usage and must be able to work quickly and accurately.
The incumbent will be required to:
• In addition to writing own stories, re-write, edit and polish local and wire stories
• Liaise with correspondents and photographers to cover events
• Plan daily diaries for both the day and night pages
• Prepare the diary and collate stories and photographs for the night pages
• Allocate stories for day pages
• Liaise with the night sports sub at 5 PM and during the evening
• Attend daily editorial meetings
• Work on weekends
• Produce supplements
