Job Opening: Junior Editor for Lux Verbi (South Africa)

Junior Editor - Cape Town

Lux Verbi.BM, one of South Africa’s leading local Christian publishers, currently has a vacancy for a junior editor in its editorial department.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• assessing unsolicited manuscripts
• guiding up-and-coming new writers
• establishing and maintaining a strong network of local co-workers (sub-editors, translators, proofreaders and designers)
• maintaining good relationships with authors, co-workers, principals and colleagues
• publishing a variety of Christian titles per year
• supporting the publisher at Lux Verbi.BM in achieving annual financial targets.

In addition to a B. degree and/or a publishing or other relevant qualification, appointment requires the following:

• at least 2 – 3 years’ work experience in an editorial/book publishing/media environment (which includes editing, proofreading and preparing publications for printing)
• a strong visual sense
• solid understanding of the South African Christian book market
• an excellent command of Afrikaans as well as English and the ability to write striking copy
• the ability to assess manuscripts (fiction and non-fiction) and to guide talented authors to publication
• in-depth knowledge of MS Office and experience in InDesign CS4
• excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage publication according to deadlines.
