Blue Sky Publications is looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated editor with hands-on news experience for The South African Newspaper

The successful candidate will be based in the London office of Blue Sky Publications. The main purpose of the role is to put together a useful and interesting community website, newspaper and e-newsletter for South African expats living in London, whilst raising the editorial standard of the mediums, increasing readership and brand awareness.
Requirements:
The Editor will independently compile content for the weekly website, newspaper and e-newsletter to a high standard and to deadline. They will source and head up a local team of freelancers, as well as work closely with the production team in our Cape Town office. Other key responsibilities include:
• Staying abreast of South African current affairs and news, as well as South African issues/stories in the international press.
• Staying on top of trends and developments central to the lives of young professionals living in London
• Network with readers and the respective communities to build an in-depth understanding of the target market while developing the respective databases
• Maintaining positive relationships with media, clients and the contributor team of writers and photographers
• Planning and implementing an annual editorial plan
• Oversee the timely submission of all copy, comprising of self produced material, sourced content, advertorial plus editing/proofing work from contributors and freelancers
• Work with the advertising team to plan special features and sections in the paper.
• Work with the remote Production Editor to produce the weekly newspaper and any additional supplements.
• Coordinating print to web content and other editorial collaborations with the remote Online Editor
• Working closely with the Publisher and Managing Editor to create a focused, commercially viable print product
• Being a brand ambassador in representing The South African at key community and media events in London
Personal Skills/Attributes
• A valid passport, work permit/ visa for London, strictly no sponsorships
• A comprehensive knowledge of South African languages, history and culture
• An appropriate tertiary qualification is preferable
• At least one year working experience in a publishing environment
• A high energy, enthusiastic individual
• Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Exceptional attention to detail
• Problem-solving ability
