Media24 Weekly Magazines is looking for a chief sub for a new weekly news magazine. Reporting to the editor, the successful applicant will be responsible for copy editing, headline writing and proofreading of editorial and promotional material to ensure grammatical correctness, accuracy and consistency and ensuring timeous copy flow to meet the demanding production deadlines of a weekly magazine.
You will also be required to provide support to senior editors and may be required to work on other titles within the weekly magazines division.
To carry out these tasks successfully the candidate will need the following skills and aptitudes:
-Be fully competent in written and spoken English
-Have at least five years' experience as a sub-editor/copy editor at newspapers and/or magazines or have appropriate experience in the editorial environment of book publishers
-Have an avid interest in current affairs (nationally and globally), expansive general knowledge and an eye for detail
-Be passionate about language and able to prove your skill as a sub-editor/rewriter/translator, working with a wide range of subject material
-Be able to translate from Afrikaans to English
-Be able to lead a team of sub-editors and have the attitude and demeanor to work comfortably and professionally as part of a team
-Be able to work accurately, creatively and professionally under deadline pressure.
-Have a persistent nature and consistency in work approach, standards and methodology
-Be appropriately computer-literate
