Job Opening: Online Editor for Men's Health (South Africa)

Commencing soonest, Media24 requires a qualified and experienced Online Editor to grow the digital presence of the Men's Health brand, reporting directly to the Head of New Media, and based in Cape Town.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

• Daily maintenance and updating of the website.
• Daily maintenance of the brand's social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, etc).
• Successfully integrate the website into the magazine by making it useful to both the editorial team and to readers as the online source of desirable content.
• Work with the Head of New Media and Editor to map out an ongoing strategy for the continued growth of digital media.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain the website, ensuring content that is topical, and design that is dynamic and in line with the magazine standards.
• Write, repurpose, research and edit high-quality online copy.
• Increase traffic to all areas of the site.
• Increase the average session time and the number of repeat visits per calendar month
• Conceptualise, create and manage multimedia content.
• Work closely with the Editors to outline and implement a strategy to increase monthly, weekly and daily content, including the newsletter and web-specific feeds and tools.
• Generate copy for the magazine from online polls and discussion forums.
• Liaise with magazine Marketing Manager to implement promotional activities that will increase online traffic and subscriptions for the magazine.
• Actively engage with the brand's online community through social media platforms.
• Provide content to populate weekly newsletters.
• Act as an ambassador for brand and represent the brand positively at all times.
Requirements
• Qualified and experienced web editor with strong journalism skills.
• Minimum three years experience in online publishing.
• A relevant tertiary qualification would be an advantage.
• Complete understanding of content management systems, SEO and content delivery on multiple platforms.
• Experience working within healthy lifestyle media.
• Proficient personal computer skills.
• Excellent communication and editing skills, and a strong command of the English language (written and verbal)
• Sensitivity to tone and nuance.
• Team player with a sound knowledge of the local magazine and online market.
• Ability to work under pressure, still prioritising accuracy.
• Contactable references are required.
