Temporary Managing Editor Wanted for John Brown South Africa

John Brown South Africa is seeking to appoint a temporary Managing Editor to fill in for three and a half months while our Managing Editor is on maternity leave. It is to work across two key titles and associated brand extensions. The ideal candidate will have excellent writing and language skills, exceptional people-management and production skills and an eye for detail. The position is based in Cape Town and reports to the Editor.

Candidates with the following experience or interests are invited to apply for this challenging and interesting position:

Responsibilities:

• Liaise with the Editor in the planning and production of each issue and related supplements
• Assist with the commissioning of contributors
• Coordinate the production process with freelance teams
• Prepare and source copy and pictures for layout
• Work closely with the designer in the preparation of publications for repro and print
• Keep to strict deadlines and budgets
• Organise and participate in planning meetings
• Keep minutes of meetings
• Liaise with clients
• Other administrative tasks, including monitoring budgets and collating invoices
