Media24 Weekly Magazines, publishers of and is looking for a dynamic and experienced editor to head up Rapport’s magazine. Applicants must have a proven understanding of the Afrikaans market as well as a proven ability to translate this insight into relevant content to ensure the continued growth of this brand. The candidate will be based in Sandton and will report to the General Manager of Weekly Magazines.
Duties will include:
• Overall responsibility for the editorial content of the magazine
• Conceptualising and driving content development across platforms
• The ability to write and edit magazine copy
• To manage the editorial budgeting and expenditure process
• To effectively manage a creative team and the production processes
• To represent the magazine in public
• To communicate on the highest level with management, sales and marketing divisions and advertising clients
• To identify and nurture new journalism talent
• To identify editorial solutions for brand platforms other than print.
Key skills, competencies and characteristics:
• A solid knowledge of the local magazine industry and a desire to play a role in its future development
• Apassion for magazines
• At least five years’ journalistic and managerial experience with a mainstream magazine
• A tertiary qualification, preferably but not necessarily in Journalism or Media Studies
• Astrong editorial background
• Exceptional organisational skills and a good knowledge of all aspects of magazine production
• Excellent people skills
• The ability to remain focused under weekly deadline pressure
• Strong leadership qualities and excellent management and conflict-resolution skills
• Be appropriately computer literate
• Be fully competent in written and spokenAfrikaans.
